Italian language and culture courses are offered all year in Milazzo, Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean, which faces the unique scenery of the Aeolian islands. In the early summer on the island of Lipari, it is also possible to attend an Italian language and culture course. Those who want to learn the Italian language and also want to immerge themselves in nature can follow one of our language courses on a sailboat. Italian language and culture courses on a sailboat are organized by Laboratorio Linguistico in May and September. Sailing among the islands of Alicudi, Stromboli, Filicudi, Salina, Lipari, Vulcano, Panarea you learn the Italian language the same way ancient Greek philosophers held their lessons, completely immersed in nature. Living on board, after the Italian course there is the possibility to sail among volcanic islands and learn other aspects of Italian culture which characterise Italian traditions and the different ways of Italian life. In autumn, in October, we offer the possibility to attend an Italian language and culture course at Casa Migliaca, an agritourism on the slopes of the Nebrodi mountains.
We stay in a restored nineteenth century oil mill. The hosts Teresa Maria and Sebastiano are ready with a warm welcome, typical of southern Italy, and introduce us to the traditional flavours of Sicilian and Italian cuisine. Also here the Italian language and culture courses are held in a unique place, surrounded by olive trees. After the Italian course, learning about Italian language and culture continues in an authentic environment with our hosts.

The reason for coming to us, in Milazzo, Sicily to attend an Italian language and culture course is linked to our ancient cultural tradition and to numerous Mediterranean cultures which have left their mark. Furthermore, here in Sicily, with the Scuola Siciliana, the first attempts were made to organize vulgar latin, the latin language spoken by common people. At the start of the thirteenth century at the court of Hohenstaufen Frederick II of Swabia scholars were received from all over the Mediterranean.
Here they experimented with the idea of an Italian language which was then taken up by the Scuola Toscana. At Frederick’s court, Jacopo di Lentini created the poetic sonnet, which in the centuries to come was to have success throughout the rest of Europe.

We at Laboratorio Linguistico, school of Italian language and culture, have worked for over ten years teaching the Italian language and all our experience is at your disposition to ensure you learn Italian in the most professional and pleasurable way possible. You can attend our courses in Milazzo all year. The first day of the course you sit a placement test and are then assigned a language course suited to your level. You are guided in class by a teacher qualified in teaching Italian as a second language and with their experience and friendliness, already from and elementary level, you are introduced to Italian culture.

The courses are based on a communicative method, which means that the Italian language is learned through practice and working on different aspects of communication: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

We have proved through experience that this method is less academic but more effective and pleasurable. At Laboratorio Linguistico you learn the Italian language in a fun and enjoyable way. In addition, with us you can study Italian literature courses, history of art courses and cookery courses.

After the Italian course is finished we stay together to do activities that we have organized in order for you to have direct contact with Italian culture. You can meet up with other students on excursions which allow you to get to know the area. We go to Messina, Tindari, Capo Calavà, Taormina, Cefalù, Novara di Sicilia and also Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe. During the excursions you can get to know these areas of Sicily better, get to know our school of Italian language and culture better and get to know other friends of the Italian language who come from different European countries and also further afield.
